Your worldview is challenged when you experience a potentially morally injurious event (PMIE). It can confirm your worst fears and/or shatter your previous understanding about the world.
“Survival mode” happens when you become fused with unhelpful thoughts about the PMIE, and when these thoughts begin dictating your behaviour.
And moral injury is the experience of being caught in a cycle of suffering, as seen below.
When you practice defusion, you can break the cycle of suffering caused by moral injury.
Defusion relieves suffering by detaching from unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. It can help you process what happened (the PMIE) while lessening its impact (the moral injury).
