Statement of ethics

Healthcare Salute: Thank You for Your Service is committed to conducting business ethically and in compliance with digital laws and guidelines. We continually evaluate our products, services, and processes to ensure that everybody benefits from our offerings.

We weave our core values into everything we do.

Privacy & security

At Healthcare Salute, we believe in protecting our community members’ information. We promise that we will:

  • Only collect the data we need for you to access our resources properly.
  • Never share your information with anyone outside the organization (and few people within).
  • Never sell your data or use it to market our services to you on another website.
  • Delete your information after a period of inactivity (see Privacy Policy for more details.)

You can read the full privacy policy here.

Community safety

It’s essential that our community feels safe and supported when accessing our resources. We’re committed to anticipating and mitigating risks our members may take to access our resources.

We invite all community members to report incidents or provide feedback about their experience using our website. We will take prompt action to review and resolve the issue.

Accessibility & inclusion

Through a human-centred design approach, we strive to ensure all individuals feel respected and have equal access to our resources. We do our best to consider lived experience, learning needs, identity, and any physical and cultural barriers to inclusion.

Accessibility goes beyond the standard guidelines. To us, inclusion means being able to access our resources, but also fostering a sense of belonging for all. We invite individuals from all walks of life to access our content, and have designed the offerings with that diversity in mind.

Sustainability

We’re committed to building eco-conscious digital resources. Through maintenance and third-party review, we continue to work to reduce the energy used to run this website.

Accountability & transparency

We conduct internal and third-party assessments of our products and services to ensure they honour these values. We ask for frequent feedback from the community to continue to better meet the needs of those we serve.

Advocacy

This project’s purpose is to serve healthcare providers that were affected by working on the frontlines of COVID-19. Our courses and content are our healthcare salute — our way of advocating for those who dedicate their days to the service of the public.

McMaster University is located on the traditional territories of the Mississauga and Haudenosaunee nations, and within the lands protected by the “Dish with One Spoon” wampum agreement. For many thousands of years, the first people sought to walk gently on this land, offering their assistance to the first European travellers and sharing their knowledge for survival in what was at times a harsh climate. We seek a new relationship with the original peoples of this land, one based in honour and deep respect. May we be guided by love and right action as we transform our personal and institutional relationships with our Indigenous friends and neighbours.

We’re deeply committed to continuing our learning about these core values, and humbly accept feedback on how we’re putting them into practice.
